Yesterday I visited Golconda fort and did some shopping.
Last time when I was here, there was not time to visit Golconda fort. Time to fill that gap.
For people that want to visit it: getting there right when it opens is a good idea. The temperature is a lot less and the crowd is also missing. Great to go strolling.
Some very good engineering was done on Golconda fort. The archers had a lot of flexibility, there were holes to pour something (boiling oil?) on the attackers, there were a lot of areas where water was retained, extremely good examples of understanding acoustics, … That was very impressive.
I was wondering the whole time what it would have been like to live there at it’s peak. It must have been quite something with all the diamonds that were created, the hustle and bustle of an important fort, … Now it’s just a shadow of what it once was, but still, it’s easy to see how rich and lavish is must have been.
Without guide and crowd, it was great to just stroll around and let the impressions come to me at my own pace. So relaxing and nourishing. It also provided the opportunity to look at the people and interact with them. Of course, there were several request for taking a picture together with me. A very tall white guy, that is irresistible apparently.
There was also Suresh who’s a representative of a vegetable oil company. He was in Hyderabad for one day and visited Golconda. We got to talk about Hindu religion and shares some of our mantra’s. That was fun.
After Golconda fort, I went shopping. The kids and wife wanted some nice Indian flavored clothes. Talking to some people gave the hint to go to South India Shopping Mall. It is indeed a clothing shopping mall. 4 floors of clothing (and jewelry) with enough colors to brighten a foggy winter day.
It was great fun selecting clothes for my dearest women. I also took advantage to get some shirts for me. Short sleeved of course !
